Purposeful Visibility: Select Space Self-Storage

Situated on a sloping 3.55-acre site, the two-story facility was carefully planned to optimize buildable area while maintaining sensitivity to neighboring parcels. Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors worked closely with the client to develop a layout and massing strategy that feels intentional and open, avoiding the appearance of overdevelopment. The building is constructed with a light gauge steel frame and clad in insulated metal panels. Variations in color, texture, and form across the facades break down the building’s scale and provide visual interest. Key architectural moves—such as expansive glazing at the office and entry areas and strategic window placement along the highway-facing side—reinforce transparency and help define both function and brand identity.

In addition to standard unit layouts, the design includes a highly visible office and customer drop-off zone, clearly marked through material contrasts and well-lit transparency. Windows along the public-facing elevations offer glimpses of internal storage doors, signaling the building’s use and creating a recognizable landmark from the road. Decorative and linear lighting elements activate the façade after dark, enhancing nighttime visibility and offering a dynamic, contemporary aesthetic. Mohagen Hansen provided comprehensive architectural services including site planning, building design, façade articulation, and lighting integration to bring this high-impact self-storage project to life.
